Hamilton library accesses new Optical R&E network

Ontario’s advanced network connects its first library

Hamilton Public Library joins ORION

HAMILTON – Hamiltonians will soon have access to the global grid of research and education networks, as the Hamilton Public Library – the first library to join – connects to the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network, Ontario’s advanced R&E network.

“Libraries are changing to become even more relevant to the customers we serve. Hamilton Public Library customers look to us for so much more than books and DVDs alone. Public computer usage is growing and we need to find ways to meet the bandwidth requirements and that of wireless users,” said Paul Takala, Director of Digital Technology at the Hamilton Public Library. “ORION’s high quality, secure network will allow us to do that and so much more in a cost-effective way. HPL is thrilled to be the first public library system in the province to make ORION available to our customers.”
