Tuesday, September 25, 2012 (Thunder Bay, ON) — The Board of the Thunder Bay Public Library is pleased to announce that the new Chief Librarian/CEO has been selected. An extensive search effort has resulted in the appointment of John Pateman as the Chief Librarian for Thunder Bay Public Library. Mr. Pateman will
begin his position on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
Pateman’s educational background includes a BA (Honours) degree in History and Politics, a diploma in Library and Information Science, a masters degree in Business Administration and most recently, designation as Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.
Pateman’s career in public libraries began in 1978 and has spanned over 30 years, including his most recent position as Head of Libraries and Inclusion at Lincolnshire County with 48 library locations and 15 mobile libraries. Mr. Pateman has also worked as Head of Libraries and Heritage in Merton, Head of Libraries in Hackney and Library Manager in Westminster.
Pateman has demonstrated experience in strategic leadership, building partnerships, service planning, change and performance management and budgeting. He has collaborated on or written several publications, including – Libraries for All: Social Inclusion in Public Libraries and Developing a Needs Based Library Service.
John and his wife and two children have settled in Thunder Bay from the United Kingdom and are looking forward to exploring their new home. “I am so happy to be in Thunder Bay which has been very welcoming and friendly to me and my family,” says Patemen. “I am looking forward to working with the Board, the staff and the people of Thunder Bay to take the organization forward at this exciting time for public libraries in Canada.”
The Board of the Thunder Bay Public Library welcomes Mr. Pateman to his new position and look forward to working with him and introducing him to the community in October 2012.
