After a nation-wide recruitment process, the Board of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Carter to the position of Chief Librarian/Chief Executive Officer effective December 1.
Ms. Carter has held the role of Director, Branch Experience with the Kingston Frontenac Public Library since 2015. She has a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto and a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University. Additionally, Ms. Carter actively contributes to local organizations and is a strong advocate of community relationships. She currently sits on the Board of Kingston Literacy & Skills and is a member of the Kingston Waterfront Rotary Club, where she was recently awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. Laura has also served on the Board of the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation.
With strong ties to the library community, Laura serves as Chair of the Conference Planning Committee for the Ontario Library Association’s (OLA) Annual Institute on Library as Place. She has also served as the Eastern Region Councillor for the Ontario Public Library Association, and as Treasurer of the Administrators of Urban-Rural Public Libraries of Ontario. “I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead the Kingston Frontenac Public Library’s exceptional staff and to work with the Library Board, City of Kingston and County of Frontenac to provide relevant, timely and community-focused collections and services to our residents.”
Laura’s appointment was unanimously approved by the Board of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library and she assumes her new role in December. Monica Stewart, Chair of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library Board said, “The Board is very confident in Laura’s ability to take on this new position and looks forward to working with her.” In addition, the Board extends its appreciation to Lester Webb, Interim Chief Librarian/CEO for his support through this transition.
