One eRead Canada Steering Committee

Terms of Reference

Background Information

Following the success of CULC/CBUC’s first #eContentForLibraries campaign, the CULC/CBUC eContent Working Group created an opportunity for libraries to participate in a Canada-wide digital reading event: One eRead Canada/Un livrel Canada.

Purpose

The program will be ongoing and will include a Canadian author’s title available in English and French and audio format.

In addition to promoting a title published by a Canadian publisher, the data gathered will help Canadian libraries demonstrate that libraries lending ebooks is a good thing for the publishing industry, through both discovery and promotion.

Membership

The Committee will be supported by a Digital Content working group Executive Member and two members at large.

The Committee will be led by two CULC/CBUC library staff and supported by staff from various CULC/CBUC member libraries.  To support Canada wide participation when appropriate a non CULC/CBUC library staff member may be included in the Committee with the approval of the Digital Content Working Group.

Role of Members

The Committee will:

  1. Negotiate a flat borrowing rate for Canadian public libraries to provide access to the title on all digital platforms libraries use,
  2. Organize national programming related to the title,
  3. Promote the title and programming to all Canadian public libraries with an annual launch at the OLA Super Conference in January,
  4. Complete an annual report of statistics and impacts of the program.

 In addition, the leads will:

  1. Ensure the CULC/CBUC website is kept up to date with membership and program information,
  2. Ensure minutes of meetings and other relevant documentation is organized and available on a central drive managed by CULC/CBUC.

Support from the Digital Content Working Group

The Working Group will receive monthly updates from the Committee and provide support on demand as needed, especially promoting the overall program.

Reporting

In addition to monthly reporting to the Working Group an annual report will be submitted to CULC/CBUC.

Meetings

The Committee should meet at least once a month virtually and store all documentation on a centrally accessible site managed by CULC/CBUC.

Conflict of Interest

No one working or associated with, or profiting from a Canadian publisher should participate in the work of this committee.

Committee members will be asked to declare any perceived or actual conflicts of interest before joining the Committee.

Confidentiality

All members of the Committee have access to confidential negotiation information and are required to maintain confidentially in all their work related to this Committee and in relation to their overlapping conversations with vendors and publishers outside of their work on the Committee.
