Palace Project

The Palace Project is a non-profit ebook and eAudio content suite that provides a single platform for downloadable digital content from a variety of vendors. The Palace Marketplace provides content with multiple license options for individual titles, as well as content that is not available to public libraries through other sources. Palace is strongly aligned with the advocacy goals and licensing approach endorsed by the Digital Content Working Group.

Vancouver Public Library and Edmonton Public Library have partnered with The Palace Project to bring a brand-new ebook and audiobook platform to library customers in Canada: the Palace Project App. This will open the doors for other interested Canadian public libraries to join the project and offer Palace to their patrons.

This app provides Canadian library users with access to Audible-exclusive titles for the first time, and provides a platform for many other ebook and audiobook collections. This means customers can now borrow Audible audiobooks that haven’t been available through libraries before.

We invite all Canadian libraries to explore The Palace Project to understand the benefits this initiative can bring to their customers. The Palace Project is committed to working with publishers to secure multiple license options for individual titles, enabling libraries to stretch their resources further and build diverse digital collections. As more libraries join, our collective resources grow. This means accelerating the opportunity for improved app features, while also expanding the variety of ebooks and digital audiobooks available to users.

About The Palace Project

Launched in the U.S. in 2021, the Palace Project App is managed by The Palace Project, a division of Lyrasis. This initiative benefits from strategic partnerships with Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) and funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The platform itself is built on the open-source codebase of the Library Simplified platform, originally developed by the New York Public Library.
