Overview

CULC is committed to advocating for urban libraries as vital community hubs that foster literacy, innovation, and equity. Our advocacy work amplifies the collective voices of library leaders and staff, addressing systemic challenges and promoting policies that empower libraries to serve their communities effectively.

CULC’s advocacy efforts have resulted in some major achievements including:

  • Influence on pre-budget decisions through policy submissions advocating for increased funding and support for library services
  • Recognition of champions of librarianship, elevating the profession and its societal impact
  • Partnership with the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) to expand access to materials for Canadians with print disabilities
  • Development of influential statements on diversity, inclusion, and social equity, positioning libraries as leaders in community transformation
