Canadian Urban Libraries Council/Conseil des Bibliothèques Urbaines du Canada (CULC/CBUC) is leading a national study to better understand the role of urban libraries in their communities and the impact and value of libraries for the entire country. The national impact study goes beyond conventional measurements (e.g. foot traffic, circulations or event participation figures) and measures how library services impact and change the social well-being of participants.
Inspired by the pioneering work at Toronto Public Library, this study is the first-of-its-kind conducted on a national scale. The results of the study will support national and regional conversations about the importance of public libraries to Canadian local communities.
Results from the study will be available in early 2026.
