The announcement was made by David Bishop, Chair of the Library Board who said, “The Board is very pleased to have attracted a dynamic leader with excellent credentials to lead the Richmond Hill Public Library. Ms Procter Maio has 10 years experience as a public library Chief Executive Officer, having held this position at both the East Gwillimbury and the Aurora Public Libraries. She has a proven track record of successful leadership as a public library CEO and is well equipped to deal with the challenges presented by the Library’s need to respond to the Town’s continuing growth.”
Ms Procter Maio will be well known to many of the Richmond Hill Public Library’s staff members and patrons as the result of her previous service as the Library’s Manager of Outreach and Orientation and before that, as the Adult Services Librarian. She assumes her new role as CEO effective August 20, 2012.
Ms Procter Maio is an active member of a number of professional organizations including the the Human Resources Network of Ontario Libraries, the Canadian Library Association and the Ontario Library Association. She is the current Vice Chair of the Board of the Library Services Centre, one of Canada’s largest providers of bibliographic material to libraries.
Ms Procter Maio is a graduate of the University of Guelph (Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History) and the University of Toronto (Master of Library Science).
In making the announcement Mr. Bishop said that “We’ve had a history of leadership excellence and continuity at the Library. The Board is excited by the opportunities presented by enthusiastic new leadership in continuing this tradition. We also acknowledge the excellent work done by our staff, and thank them for their support, particularly during the recent period when our senior managers led a problem-free operation during the CEO selection process.“
The mission of the Richmond Hill Public Library is to provide a progressive user-oriented library service which responds to and anticipates the educational. leisure, and other information needs within the community. The Library has over 100,000 active users and serves the community through four locations. The library’s educational programs are attended by more than 17,000 people each year, with the majority being children.
